Several months ago at the Back to School Bash, Lizzy won several auctions for special experiential prizes. One, pizza lunch for her, a friend, and her teacher, was a few weeks ago. Today, she got to do Play-Doh with Mrs. Rich the Vice Principal! She still has a few more coming up that she's looking forward to - one in December, and the grand prize which is in the Spring.

Thanksgiving was a great day. Lizzy made an art center so everyone could make a Native American headdress if they so chose. She was the chief, and was very proud of her creation all day! Uncle Randy made a good one as well.

We delivered her letter to Santa this morning. In it, she asked for Cuddles my Puppy or Snuggled my Kitten for Christmas, but for Santa to please deliver it to the Christmas tree at home, as she won't have room for it in her luggage. However, Santa is to bring her stocking stuffers to the hotel room.

Next, we went to get our nails done for Hawaii. She chose some really appropriate colors. Blue for the sea, green for the palm trees, yellow for the sun, orange for the sand, and pink for the flowers.
Next, we came home to get Dad, then went to get a Yoshi Build-a-Bear. She didn't know they had Mario characters, so it was a great surprise for her! Finally, we ended the night at the Carmel Christkindlmarkt, and she had hot chocolate, bought chocolate gingerbread cookies, and ate a raclette sandwich.

Just like last February 15, this evening was the school's Math and Science night. For the past year, she has talked about how excited she was to attend. Just as last year, we arrived right at 5:30. and we eked out every single ounce of science fun from the 3 hour event, being among the last people to leave (if not the last!)
The highlights for her this year were the Van Der Graaf generator (which was visited 4 times) the service dogs, the Australian python, the volcano/earthquake simulator (she made quite a seismic event!), and the green screen. She was elated, and didn't want it to end.

Today was the long-awaited Dr. Seuss carnival. For weeks, she'd been collecting tickets for good behavior, so naturally she had a big stack of tickets to use. She won a cookie in the cookie walk, and played lots and lots of games. She also won a star for being the fastest in the Lorax race. Her class were all Hortons.

Lizzy's teacher has been assessing the students on their fluency when reading aloud. When you read fluently, you get a punch on your punch card. Complete a punch card with 6 punches, and earn a coveted Bear Paw! Lizzy was among the first in her class to get a paw, and it was featured on the school news broadcast.
As with last year, we had to make a leprechaun trap, in hopes of snagging a tricky leprechaun and earning a gold coin.

Success! The leprechaun fell for the trap, and Lizzy was rewarded with a gold coin. Who knew St. Patrick's Day was such a profitable holiday?
We were so excited to go to the school's annual pancake breakfast. After filling our tummies, Lizzy engaged in a great game of don't let the balloon hit the floor.

WHAT A DAY THIS WAS!!!
I know Lizzy is a very lucky girl with a very special life. She has already had so many special, memorable days in her almost 7 years, but this has to rank near the top.
Let's start at the beginning. It was dress like an animal day, so she chose her furry vest, and before we left the house, had the idea to add some ears. She was representing a dingo. While waiting in the drop off line at school, we had some animal fun with filters as well.

As usual, Lizzy reported to her classroom, to put her coat and backpack away. Almost immediately, however, the fun began. Dr. K (the school principal) came in to her class to ask if the student principal was in today. As he was there, morning announcements began, and said "Today we have a very special principal. If you see Lizzy Mac today, be sure to smile and wave at her!"
Around 10, I got a phone call from the School Secretary. She said that Lizzy was sitting right next to her, working hard (they had her sorting paper!), and that Dr. K wanted to know if it was okay to tweet out a photo of her. I said of course, and knew I'd have a fun day of updates to look forward to!
At 11:15, my phone rang again. It was Lizzy, calling me from Dr. K's desk. She had gotten to make the decision on if it was indoor or outdoor recess for all the children. She chose outdoor.
Soon after we hung up, Dr. K sent me several photos (and also told me "she's an amazing girl!") Two of her at his desk, and another of her interviewing the school OT/PT, learning about what she does. Look at how serious she is!

Soon after was lunch. Dr. K kindly ordered her cheese pizza and breadsticks, her request.
After lunch, Lizzy facilitated a discussion with her classmates around ideas for improving the school. The boys contributed such ideas as "watch movies" and "wear pajamas every day", while the girls had input such as "no running in the halls" and "be kind to each other."
Dr. K at this point let me know "Having a blast with her!"

Also through the day, the school tweeted out "Lizzy is a natural leader!", which is evident from the photo above, I'd like to think.
The day continued with Liz getting to tour secret rooms, storage closets she didn't realized existed in the gym, and supervising recess.

I love how, her entire day as principal, the animal ears stayed on.
It was a huge day for her, and she made so many memories about this experience. She wants to do it again next year, but it all depends on if it's an available auction item, and if she's "lucky" enough to win again!
Also, one of her friends in another class got sent to the principal, but since she was out and about with Dr. K, he just had to end up writing a letter rather than getting in trouble. Lizzy said he has her to thank. Ha!

She really liked being addressed all day as "Principal Mac" by her peer group. She certainly is a leader!

Lizzy and I spent the weekend at Mother Daughter Camp, at a lovely venue in Southern Indiana. We arrived slightly before check in time, but were greeted and given our cabin location. We were thrilled with it! It was big enough to sleep 14, and since we were the first to arrive, we chose and made up our bed.

We were thrilled with it! It was big enough to sleep 14, and since we were the first to arrive, we chose and made up our bed.
Once we had unpacked and climbed and played, we ran down the hill to the tetherball courts at the bottom. Lizzy had never gotten to play tetherball, and it became a frequent stopping point for us every time we went to and from the cabin.
We has some time to kill before the first event, so we walked around the grounds for a good while, getting the lay of the land.
The evening events commenced in the amphitheater, with introductions, some fun songs, hot dogs, s'mores, and a talent show. Lizzy was eager to share her talent, on stage without hesitation, of her super long lizard tongue!
After a night hike through the woods (the guide had lots of neat experiments, including mints which sparked in the dark), it was bedtime!
May 5, 2018
After a good night of rest, we awoke and headed down to breakfast. After breakfast began a busy day of activities. We did tie dye, more tetherball, and archery. Lizzy was so exceptional at archery that the instructor encouraged her to find an archery team or club. She was even helping me correct my form, and I legitimately improved based on her coaching.

After archery, Lizzy and I decided to take a long walk in the woods. We found an emerald beetle, a box turtle, and a snail in the middle of the trail.
After our walk, we decided to play some Carpetball (so much fun!) and grab some fresh root beer before lunch was served.
After lunch, Lizzy instructed a group of girls how to play Gaga Ball, and led a few spirited games!
After Gaga Ball was tea time.
Followed by some Duck Duck Goose.
Afterwards, we were looking for some time to ourselves away from the group, so we walked up to the equine center, and had the horses to ourselves for some petting time for around an hour.
We headed back down for dinner time.
Six, almost seven!
After dinner, we played oversized jenga, resulting in a perfect game (where no more moves can be made!)
After jenga, we went on another nature walk, then headed back to get front row seats for Silly Safaris show. Lizzy was selected as an audience volunteer for the green tree frog, which tried to climb up her arm.
After the talent show, she had become a camp celebrity due to her tongue trick, so she didn't hesitate to show everyone her tongue while greeting the audience.

Lizzy's last day of being six began with a lovely breakfast of French toast and sausage, then we did a corral ride at the equestrian center. She LOVED Juilet, and since it wasn't her first time riding, which was apparent to the staff, she didn't have to be led around. Rather, she got to control Juliet alone, by reigns and commands. She did great!

After her riding time, we headed back to the car to head on home, as we missed Daddy, and he was leaving the next day. Mother Daughter camp was tremendously fun, and schedule-permitting, we hope to do it again next year.
