Hard to believe it had been one year since we learned Elizabeth would be joining us. It was also her four month birthday, so it's monthly picture time! Also, Grandma and Grandpa bought her a hat to prepare for winter.

Elizabeth spent the night at her grandparent's again, and was such a good girl.
September 11, 2011
She weighed in at 14 pounds, 11.5 ounces.

She is the best 31st birthday present anyone has ever gotten.

Used her grocery cart cover for the first time. She really enjoyed it!

Tried bananas for the first time - oh my yum. Also, someone figured out that toes fit in her mouth.

We played with her big pink ball a lot last night, including her laying on her back and holding it above her with all four limbs, and sitting up while we rolled the ball. She also stood up for a number of seconds, using the ball for support.

Elizabeth has begun to anticipate when bath time is, getting really excited when we walk into the bathroom in the evenings, and nearly jumping out of my arms when I turn the bathtub on. She loves to splash and play and laugh. Today she weighed in at 15 pounds, 8 ounces.

Mommy and Daddy and Elizabeth walked down to our local Oktoberfest celebrations, as the weather was perfect. Liz had such a great time! We listened to and danced with a polka band for probably 90 minutes. Every time the music would stop, she'd verbalize her frustration until the music restarted. And so many people (and doggies, which she loves) to watch! She eventually just fell asleep in my arms.

Elizabeth is getting very frustrated that she isn't yet strong enough to crawl. She goes from sitting up to leaning forward with her arms. She then leans forward to get momentum, and falls on her face. She tried to crawl for two hours today, getting more and more frustrated. She understands the mechanics, she just doesn't yet have the strength in her arms and legs to pull it off successfully.

Today was Elizabeth's 4 month checkup. She weighed in at 16 pounds, 1 ounce, which put her at 80th percentile on weight. And she's 86th percentile on height, so hopefully she will be tall like her Daddy. We also had our suspicions confirmed about her development. They remarked on her physical strength and abilities, and said we should consider her on par with a 7-month old in terms of physical development, And cognitively? Well, let's just say we were advised that if we want to challenge her mental capacities, that 18-month old toys (with supervision) would be appropriate. I'm as proud as a peacock. Also, I was told to keep up the great work with breastfeeding (part of the reason she's thriving and so healthy) and that we can add more variation to her solid food diet since she's handling that so well.

Her babbling is now definitely multi-syllabic, and is including the "b" and "g" sounds very prominently.

We've got our first word! While she was at Grandma's for the day, she was in her walker in the kitchen. On the refrigerator is the 3-month photo of Elizabeth and me together. She walked over to the picture, and said "Mama" twice. I found this hard to believe, until we got home. I placed her on the floor while I went to put my shoes on for our daily walk. When I turned to walk away, she said "Mama!". Unbelievable.

Daddy, Elizabeth and I played with her ball last night. I would roll the ball to them, and he'd hold her body and sort of move her legs to the ball to "kick" it back to me (think a baby-sized foosball player). I asked him to start holding her still to see if she could figure out how to kick it back to me. The next time I rolled it over to them, a little leg came out and kicked the ball directly back to me. She laughed and laughed at this new best game ever.
