Eight months. Unbelievable.
This morning we were packing for our upcoming Florida trip. We thought about putting the baby in our checked luggage, but it turns out airlines frown on that.

Elizabeth's hair is getting so long and thick that when she wakes up in the morning it's starting to get tangled and I have to brush through it with my fingers to get it to lay flat again.
She's starting to show a LOT of interest when I go to the toilet. I'm entertaining the notion of getting her a potty chair so she can at least practice sitting on it. I think between her interest in the toilet and her revulsion at wet nappies, we might be potty trained before 15 months, when I was out of diapers. If we could be potty trained before Europe this summer, that would be amazing.

Our poor sweet girl is in tremendous distress from teething. Her poor little gums are so sore, and she's fitful and crying a lot more than is typical for her sweet, happy disposition. Let's just have those silly teeth break through already, so she can get back to normal. On a bright note, I got the venue booked for her first birthday party! It's surreal to even be planning for a first birthday. It seems like only yesterday we found out she would be making our lives complete.
January 10, 2012
Elizabeth's Daddy came home from a business trip so, as usual, she was all wound up once she saw him and resisted going to sleep. At 8:00, I took her to her nursery where it was dark and quiet, in hopes I could coax her to sleep. After about 5 minutes of her being quiet and still, I thought she might have dozed off. No sooner had that thought crossed my mind than she looked at me and blew a big raspberry right in my face. This little girl never ceases to make me laugh.
January 11, 2012
Today Elizabeth learned how to turn light switches on and off.
We went to dinner at Olive Garden tonight, and she was, as always, so good. She sat in her high chair without making a peep, content to eat breadsticks and spaghetti bites. I guess this bodes very well for our trip to Florida this weekend!
January 12, 2012
When we got home from Grandma and Grandpa's house, Elizabeth and I went upstairs to my bedroom. I put her on the floor (standing up) and she took off, RUNNING, to the other side of the room. She went probably 11 or 12 steps, at full speed, before I had to go grab her or else she would've run into her Daddy's nightstand. I had seriously underestimted how fast she can walk/run!
January 14, 2012
Our long awaited Florida trip has arrived! We all woke up at 3:00 am to get ready to leave. I had hoped Elizabeth would stay asleep, but as soon as we woke up, she did too. Once we parked the car and got up to check in, the first person she locked eyes with got a great big gummy smile. This was to set the tone for the whole trip - every person she encountered was a new friend. She was so sweet and smiley with everyone she met.

We boarded our flight for Atlanta, and she nursed to sleep before takeoff. I was so worried she would have pain from the pressure changes, but she never gave any indication of pressure-related discomfort on any of our 4 legs of the trip. She slept through the entire flight, and woke up once we landed.
She was all smiles during our brief layover in Atlanta. Here she is, with our proud travel mascot, The Queen.

During our second flight, Liz was in a chipper mood and entertained herself by looking out the window, playing with the tray table, nursing, and playing Peek-A-Boo with the sweet old couple that was in the row behind us.
Once we landed and collected our bags and rental car (she slept on the ride to the hotel), we got to check in. Our sleeping baby slept right up until we got into the room. It was beautiful! 900 square feet, with a screened patio, full kitchen, full washer and dryer (this came in handy!), huge bathroom with separate shower and soaking tub, and a nice bedroom. She set out to explore every corner, sometimes crawling, and sometimes walking. Daddy ran to the grocery store across the street to grab some lunch and some other food for our kitchen. After lunch, everyone had a nice nap.
Once we were all awake, it was time to go visit the Mouse.

Once at Disney, we started off to go to a character shop so she could choose a stuffed Mickey to go with the stuffed Minnie her Daddy brought her from Anaheim. We selected 3 Mickeys for her to choose from - a really furry, brown Mickey, a black and white "Steamboat Willie" Mickey, and Fantasia Mickey. She selected her Mickey, the brown one, by giving him a kiss on his nose.
After the store, we went to ride the carousel. I took her on the ride while Daddy took pictures. As soon as we selected our horse (I was sure to get an up-and-down one, not a lame stationary one), she immediately grabbed the reins like she'd been doing this her whole life. As soon as the carousel lit up and started rotating, she let out her normal excited sound, which is a cute little gasp of air. She spotted her Daddy every time around! She really enjoyed it.
After the ride we went to dinner at Fulton's Crab House. Liz had her first taste of crab and boy, did she ever love it!
After dinner, we headed back home to get a good night's rest after our long day.
January 15, 2012
Our first full day in Florida. Liz and I woke up around 6:00 am, as we normally do. Here she is with the Mickey she chose the night before.

Breakfast time.
I know Liz isn't in this photo, but this shows the beautiful weather we had during our stay at our resort.
Our hotel was right behind a big premium Outlet Mall, so when they opened at 10:00 am, we went and did some shopping. We grabbed lunch from the food court and headed back to the room to eat it and take our afternoon naps. Afterwards, we headed to the zero-entry pool for some swimming. As soon as she dipped her toes in the water, a giant smile spread across her face. This girl LOVES the water!
After getting out of the pool and taking our showers, we headed to Outback for dinner. When we were leaving, there was a group of ducks quacking at us.
It was still so nice outside that Daddy and Liz walked back to the hotel (it was just across the street), while I drove the car back.
January 16, 2012
We woke up and walked around the grounds a few laps, since it was so gorgeous. We then headed downtown to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch. It was so nice, beacuse they brought her a separate bread plate, with the bread cut up into little slices, and some bananas too!

After lunch we headed back to the hotel for our last visit to the pool. We used the main pool this time, and she got to float around in her Lizzy boat. Such fun!
As always, playing in the pool is exhausting. She napped from 3:15 - 5:45, so I was worried she wouldn't go to sleep until late.
However, my worry was unfounded, as she was asleep for the night by 7:30.

Got to the airport, dropped the car off, checked the bags, and got through security without issue. We got to ride the Monorail to the different terminal, which is always fun.
While I was getting lunch, she fell asleep in the Bjorn. She slept through the boarding process, takeoff, and slept across our laps for at least another 30 minutes.
When she woke up, we nursed and then had turkey sandwich. She was happy and playful again, and wanted to walk and play all over Atlanta airport.
For our last flight, she fell asleep before takeoff and woke up after we landed. All in all, this trip was better than I had expected in terms of flights. I think this bodes very well for Europe this summer!

We were in bed, getting ready to nurse and go to sleep. Before we nurse each night, we play for awhile in bed. She crawled to the middle of the bed and, for the first time, stood up completely on her own, without pulling up on anything.

Since I have booked her 1 year birthday party at Gymboree sight unseen, we figured we should probably go there to check it out. I signed her up for the "Level 2" class, which is for babies 6 - 10 months old. Since she's 8 months old, it seemed like the logical place to put her, right? As soon as we met the teacher, and she saw Elizabeth walking, the first thing she said is "She needs to be in Level 3". Turns out she was way advanced for the Level 2 class, which is for babies who are just learning to crawl and/or sit independently. Level 3, which is for little ones 10 - 16 months, is for kiddos learning to pull up, stand, cruise, and just starting to walk independently (all of which she can already do). I was a little worried since she will by far be the youngest one in the class, but the teacher said Liz will be able to "hold her own". So, next Saturday we will be taking her to the Level 3 class instead of Level 2. I know of someone else who was moved up a whole class level due to being advanced, many years ago :o)
Regardless of not being in the right class for her level of motor skills, Elizabeth still had a fantastic time playing with the one other baby in the class. They were 4 days apart, and Liz looked GIANT next to the other baby girl. I sometimes forget that Liz is quite large (height wise) for her age. Liz especially liked the bubbles, singing, dancing, parachute, and all the toy stations she got to play at. I can't wait to see what Level 3 has in store for her!

I treasure every moment spent with this sweet spirit. She unlocks a joy in my soul that I didn't even know was possible. Sometimes being apart from her causes me physical pain, but I always know she's in the best hands that love her nearly as much as I do. I am so proud of her advancement, but even more so, I love hearing her laugh so hard that she has to stop to catch her breath. I didn't know life could be this good.

We have been very fortunate that Elizabeth has been remarkably healthy. The pediatrician indicated this is due to the fact she isn't in day care, and that I still breastfeed. The first week home, she was a little congested, which is 100% normal in newborns. In October, she had a dry cough, that was due to the air in our house being so dry. We installed a whole-house humidifier, and the cough went away. She had 1 night when she had a fever, after getting shots. So I don't really count those items.
But she is now "really" sick for the first time. At 3:00 pm, she started having a stuffy nose. Which is now runny and stuffy. She's sneezing, which helps expel the mucus. But oh, sleeping is hard for her because she's so congested. I sat up on the couch all night with her propped up against me so she could sleep. She did, fortunately. I didn't, though.
January 25, 2012
The saddest part of Liz being sick that she is so congested that she couldn't nurse this morning. This broke my heart. It wasn't for lack of effort. But, she can't latch on and breathe at the same time, since she needs to breathe through her mouth right now. Hopefully taking the bottle while sitting up will be easier for her. I hope this passes quickly, beacuse it utterly breaks my heart to know she's not 100%. Although she's still laughing and smiling, like always.
At Grandma and Grandpa's, she was steadily improving all day, and had a massive nap from 1:00 to about 4:30.
Once we got home, she was being so funny. She had taken her socks off, and had one sock in her hand. She'd hold the sock out in front of her, throw it, and then crawl after it. Pick it up again, throw it, and crawl after it. All the way across the living room.
In other play-related news, in the last two days or so she's learned how to play peek-a-boo. Where SHE'S the one doing the hiding! She will duck her head into couch cushions, or cover up her face herself now. She's been playing peek-a-boo with the adult doing the hiding since about 3 months, but this is a fun new development.
She still couldn't nurse around 8:00 pm, so her Daddy had to give her a bottle so she'd have some milk in her tummy. I lay her down with me, and she was asleep by 9:00
January 26, 2012
Our sweet girl is better! She slept great all night, no sniffles. She can nurse again (THANK GOODNESS!), which is huge for us. I'm so happy she kicked this thing in just over 24 hours. Again, I'm so thankful for our healthy girl. May that forever be the case.
I have noticed a trend. Whenever anyone asks to see pictures of LIz, or people see her in public, there is one word that gets used about 90% of the time. Not "cute", or "sweet", or "pretty". Not "precious" or "adorable" or "delightful".
She is...
GORGEOUS
Yeah. I know she is.
Today when I was talking on the phone to her she said "Mama", recognizing my voice. I love that she knows my voice so well. It's so funny to talk to her on the phone. She gets so excited. I love it too :o)
January 28, 2012
What a big day! We got up, had breakfast, and headed to our morning Gymboree class. We got there quite early, so we were able to have breakfast at Cafe Patachou to kill some time. Liz had a "second breakfast" (good hobbit!) of toast and fruit while we waited. Level 3 Gymboree class is MUCH more Liz's speed. Walking, climbing, playing, crawling - she had an absolute blast. While we were there, her Daddy bought a bubble gun that we played with when we got home - so many bubbles! Liz was worn out from the hard playing at Gymboree, and she fell asleep in her seat on the way home (around 10:00) and didn't wake up until after noon. We had lunch, and we were going to head to the swimming pool, but she went to sleep AGAIN from 2:00 - 5:00! Once we woke up, we decided to go have Thai food. We'd let Liz try Italian, Chinese, and Indian thus far, and she had liked pretty much everything that doesn't involve green beans or tilapia. For dinner she had chicken satay, glass noodles with chicken, and even had some sticky rice pudding for dessert. Her belly was SO FULL, but everything I read says to let the baby eat as much as they want until they decide they're done, and that's what we did! She had a great meal to end a great day.
January 29, 2012
Every Sunday morning Liz and I wake up and watch travel shows on HD Net. It's truly my favorite time of the week. I love weekends when I get to spend so much time with my sweet girl, since our time through the week is so limited to just a few hours in the evening. I simply cannot get enough of her.
After another BIG morning nap (guess she was still tired from yesterday!), we had lunch and headed to the Y to do some swimming. Since her formal swim lessons don't start for a few more weeks, I want her to get very used to the pool. So, we did lots of kicks in the water, went under (not her favorite...), and just played and enjoyed our time. Once home, surprise surprise, she napped for nearly 3 hours. And what a heavy nap it was!

In all, Liz was an absolute chatterbox this weekend, babbling and talking up a storm. I am so in love with her sweet voice, her "uh ohs" and nonsense words. We were playing with her where you take your hand and make the "Indian noise" by hitting your lips while vocalizing. She thinks this is hilarious, obviously. We had stopped doing it, but she wanted to continue. She hasn't figured out how to do that with her own hand quite yet, so she tried to mimic the vocalization sound herself, going "ohwa ohwa ohwa" to indicate she wanted us to continue. So funny and smart.
January 30, 2012
We had a fun night where Allison and Rachel came over for dinner and play time. Since it was a beautiful evening, after dinner we went to the playground across from my house. The girls got to play together, which was fun! Liz had only had 1 nap, so as soon as she lay down at 7:00, she was out like a light!
January 31, 2012
Today Elizabeth is 38 weeks, 3 days old. That is exactly how old she was, gestationally, when she was born. So, as of today, she as spent as much time outside of the womb as she spent in it :o)
She fell asleep on Grandma's lap.

She went up to grandpa, and untucked his shirt to look at his belly, where he has a few moles. She hadn't encountered these before, said "huh" like anyone would when encountered with something new to them, and proceeded to investigate intently.
She has also really started saying "mmmm" when she eats something she likes, especially cottage cheese. She's also become a proficient "bye-bye" waver, for weeks has been able to "kick kick kick" when you ask her to, clap her hands to music, and gives a big refreshed "Aaaahhhh" after a big, cold drink of water.

It has been so beautiful and unseasonably warm, so we have been playing at the park in Fortville each afternoon this week.
February 4. 2012
We both have another cold, so this is our second cold in as many weeks. But, she has been smiling and happy, despite the runny nose and sneezes! Today she learned how to "give five", and she now says "poo poo poo" when we change her diaper, since she's recognized that word has something to do with changing time. Smart girl!
February 5, 2012
We went to the grocery this morning, one of Liz's favorite places to visit. Afterwards, off to the Y to swim for about an hour. I cannot overemphasize how much she loves the water. She has begun to recognize her swimsuit, and get really excited when she sees it, as she knows it means pool time!
February 6, 2012
Today, our silly, funny girl learned how to use a hardwood floor to "slide" away from impending tickles. She sits up with her legs in a "V", pushes backwards with her arms, ends up on her belly, and pushes her way across the floor, backwards, on her belly. She comes up with something new and funny literally every day.
She cannot get enough of being outside. Today she got to go out to watch Gus eat his food, causing her to bend over intently to watch him from Grandpa's lap. Then she got to "drive" the lawnmower. Oh what fun.

We went to the grocery this morning, one of Liz's favorite places to visit. Afterwards, off to the Y to swim for about an hour. I cannot overemphasize how much she loves the water. She has begun to recognize her swimsuit, and get really excited when she sees it, as she knows it means pool time!
